Feel Like Yourself Again: How Pellet Therapy Supports Hormone Health

Are you approaching menopause or in it already? If so, you might feel more tired, irritable, or anxious than usual. Mood swings, hot flashes, and insomnia can leave you unwilling to engage in sex or the social activities you usually enjoy.

How can you feel like yourself again and thrive in menopause? At Progressive Women’s Health OB/GYN in Friendswood, Texas, experienced women’s health provider Asia Mohsin, MD, specializes in hormone pellet therapy for menopause symptoms.

Pellet therapy can alleviate some of menopause’s most challenging symptoms so you can reclaim your energy and feel like yourself again. Here’s how:

How pellet therapy works

Pellet hormone therapy is a way of replacing the hormones your body stops producing when you reach menopause.

When hormone production declines, your body can’t function as it did before. That’s because the hormone estrogen plays a key role in your reproductive system, brain, bones, and other systems. It also regulates your menstrual cycle, which stops at menopause.

Pellet therapy introduces new, bioidentical hormones into your body to take the place of the estrogen your ovaries produce. Bioidentical hormones function like natural hormones and come from natural sources like plants.

Pellets are a great way to take hormones because they sit under your skin and release hormones for about three months at a time. You don’t have to remember a daily pill or injection.

What to expect while undergoing pellet therapy

If Dr. Mohsin determines you’re a candidate for pellet therapy, she inserts the pellet through a small incision, usually in the hip or upper buttock. It’s about the size of a grain of rice. She numbs your skin to keep you comfortable during the brief, in-office procedure.

After that, there isn’t much else you need to do. Dr. Mohsin monitors you for side effects and to ensure you’re at the proper dose. The pellet eventually dissolves. Depending on your needs, you may repeat the procedure.

Are you a candidate for pellet therapy?

Dr. Mohsin uses hormone testing to determine if you can benefit from pellet therapy and the appropriate dose. You might be a candidate for pellet therapy if you experience menopausal:

Dr. Mohsin may recommend other options to manage your symptoms based on your needs. Hormone therapy is also available in pill form, patch form, and topical products.
